"Dad, what's mee-dee-ya?"

"Well, my little lamb, it's a form of communication,
and so it can be a slideshow...."

"...or, it can be a radio interview...."
BASIC on the radio!

The San Diego Literacy Council (of which BASIC is a member) does a weekly hour radio program on wsradio.com.
Jose Cruz, the Council Executive (who comes to BASIC's Golf Tournament) interviewed Joann Stang,
a BASIC board member, about Learning Academy and BASIC.
This is 20-minute interview takes 30 minutes of show time with ads (warning in advance).

...or a Showcase of Scholars!
Jamie Blakeley, 2nd year Nursing
My name is Jamie Blakeley and this is the product of being a BASIC Scholar for 6 years in a row! In my senior year of high school, I was given the privilege of holding the title as Miss Borrego Springs "12-'13. Through this opportunity, I was ble to meet wonderful people who saw potential in me; including members of the BASIC Scholarship. I knew this scholarship was locally funded and I did not want to disappoint my community who gave so much for me to pursue my dreams. Six years later I am proud to announce that this June I will be graduating with my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International: Rho Beta Chapter, for ranking in the top 35th percentile of my graduating class. I hope to inspire my peers to achieve their goals even if they seem unattainable. Thank You BASIC!

Victor Lopez graduated from CSU-Chico in Healthcare Administration and enlisted in the Air Force. He decided at the start of his senior year that offering “hands-on” care was most important to him. He enlisted in the Air Force and felt that the “on the job training” along with the discipline and a structured environment would help enhance his foundational strength. He thanks his family and the Borrego Springs community for the strong support, as well as BASIC, Mr. Joe Ellis and Mr. Vincenzo Morelli for the financial assistance that helped him focus on academic pursuits. We feel very proud of Victor and wish you him all the best!
